The Ale Trail Chapter 11: Time out for a trip back north

My dear friend Heather left a comment that she was using one of my photographs off this blog of which I am very pleased she is doing that, we go back quite a few years and she's very important to me as she is an old Army buddy.  A great story is there about our friendship, but for another time, another posting.  What is important is that if you do wish to use photographs off this blog, I know you can right click and they are yours... that's not troubling me at all, but... if you are using them for something where you can provide attribution... that is the right thing to do and since I would do that for you (I always provide attribution) I would expect you do that for me... "Photograph by My Happy Eye."  This is an art / photography / writing about stuff blog.  With that said, after a most pleasant partially sunny visit to Devonshire... we had to leave for destinations north.  For years this sculpture has been alongside the M6 south of Bristol and north of Exeter alongside the north bound lanes.  I am not certain of the message so I won't go there other than to say I like it very much.
As you see the skies were ready for a downpour.  We pulled off at the Avonmouth Docks as there is an industrial park where if you can just navigate into the correct lane without some Birk making you steer in another direction at the roundabout, you can navigate over to an American landmark in the UK.  We were not that lucky, instead some ass or "asses" kept honking away at us as we unfamiliar with navigation always seems to miss our lane and found ourselves driving about for quite a few minutes just trying to get to...
That's right!  COSTCO... I know of two in the country, one on the east side of London just off the north bound entrance to the Dartford tunnel which is a part of the M25 orbital, which means it was built years ago to circle London and now it is already too small and always there are traffic jams.  The other is here just of the M6 at the Avonmouth Docks industrial part... and Yes, your American COSTCO card is good here.  That means you can purchase a 5 gallon jar of Branston Pickle, or all the Pears soap your clean little heart desires, and the book selection is second to none, but forget the DVD's and electronics as they are 220 volt and European standard.  The clothes are a bit youngish for my taste but then again here in the UK you often will find "mid 40's ish" Mums dressing just like her younger daughters and although that takes some getting used to, the female fashions are normally for the women with slender figures.  It's fondly called the old "Mutton Dressed als Lamb" syndrome.  I find the beer and wine and spirit selection is exceptional!
Yessssssssssssss!  Boddies for COSTCO cheap... the real stuff... not the imported to the USA stuff and holy cow, if you haven't been to a COSTCO in the UK then Boddies on the cheap is reason enough to bring your COSTCO card when you visit the UK!  Boddies will get you though rough times.
We got back to my In-Law's home in Cheltenham having driven for hours in pelting rain... a deluge of rain that just wouldn't let up... until we arrived at my sister's house... I got out of the Vauxhaull and shot this photograph of the new 2010 Chevrolet Spark in what I assume would be called "Lime" green...  now the US government just threw a huge chunk of US Taxpayer funded change at GM in Detroit, it was called a "Bail Out!" The Spark is manufactured by GM's Korean division... It's a five door hatchback... I thought... "See the UK in your Chevrolet."  Looking over at the Spark parked here in the Cotswolds of midland UK... I hoped with all my heart that the American bail out money stayed in the USA, and was used specifically to "spark" American jobs for American workers.... and that none of that money found it's way over to Korea so the Korean Division of GM used it to build Chevrolet Sparks for the mainland China Market... no... GM wouldn't do that because they love America and American's first.
Do you like stained glass as I do?  Next post: Balsall Common, Warwickshire and home brewing!
